Genealogy Note: rec'd from Fentress records.
Luther Simpson was born at Pawnee City, Ne. April 14, 1865, the son of Lambert & Rebecca Angeline Boston Simpson.
Luther had a sister, Laura who married Vernon Cooper. Laura died May 15, 1944. Vernon Died August 26, 1938 and both are buried at Table Rock, Nebraska.
Luther also had half 3 half sisters: Florence, Mabel and Cora Billings. And Half Brother, Alfred Billings.
Luther was raised by his Grandmother, Sarah J. Boston (b: 11-20-1838 and died 8-9-1920) He married Mary Ennajene Whitmore, the daughter of Finnas Crouch Whitmore (b-feb 29, 1830 & D: July 18, 1880) and Permelia Sylvia Frost Whitmore (b- Sept 4, 1842 & D: Feb 23, 1904.)
Luther became a horse trader and traveled with his family in a covered wagon. The first records we have indicate that they moved from Thayer County, Neb to Smith County, Kansas in September 1895, then on to Oklahoma in August 1906, then back to Jewell County, Kansas in August 1912. Sometime later they moved to Red Cloud, Nebraska where Luther operated a dray wagon with a team of horses for the town of Red Cloud. They moved to Fairbury about 1927-28. He worked for the Huston/Swartz Coal Company until a few years before his death.
Luther & mary were the parents of nine children> Murrel Agnes & Grace Ellen were married to brothers, Irvin & Marvin Reed. Murrel died at age 17 yrs & 3 months. Grace died at 23 yrs & 11 months. Both lived only a few days after giving birth. On son, Artmus Luther died at age 32 during a flu epidemic in 1918.
Six children lived, married and scattered across the country. The 8th child was Orville Francis Simpson, B: April 14, 1900- on his fathers 35 th birthday.
Orville married Lillian Mae Wilmot at Smith Center, Kansas on Feb 19, 1925. Children: Aretha Maxine, Betty Norma Jean & Francis Junior. --written to the "benefit of Orville's children, grandchildren & Great Grandchildren". (end of note)

Luther William Simpson at age 80. Taken one year before his passing.
Further info: at time of death, Luther lived alone in a one room apartment above a restaurant where he went daily for meals. When he didn't show up one morning, the police was notified and they found Luther deceased in his apartment. He was known to have heart and lung illnesses.. (from the emails from grand daughters)
I know you can't really see the vehicle behind the people, but it has a hand made over the cab platform,,with loose fodder/hay stacked on top. Nebraska Farming county and Luther was a farmer all his life.
