Front: L-R Allie Maude Simpson age 12, Muriel Agnes Simpson age 14, Grace Ellen Simpson age 16. Back: L-R Orris Nettella Simpson age 7 and Orville Francis Simpson age 9 or 10. Not shown are the older children: George, Arthur, Edith (Nora) and Leitha May (May).
Allie always felt like the "ugly duckling" of the family. But perhaps is was her tomboyish ways that set her apart. She is larger boned and would rather be out working along side her father & brothers. Trotting horses was her passion when she was in her teens. Each evening after the evening meal, all the girls would gather in their mothers room, learn to sew, gossip and have the next days chores assigned. Her mother grew ill* and was not able to be up and around much, but she seen that all the household chores were done. *we believe there was a thyroid or diabetic condition that caused her having to be "bed ridden".
Allie Maud (Simpson) Hasty aka. Allie (Alice) Maud aka. Allie Johnson (2nd Marriage)
Photo taken at Manito, Illinois in her living room with her collection of shoes, her quilt she just made and some of the roses (yellow) from her garden. She set the background and pose for most all of her pictures before she allowed any of the family to take a photo of her.
Allie Maud with Grandson, Otis Earl Jr.
Taken around 41/42 Summer picnic along the Illinois River in Havana, Illinois. She would have been in her early 40's in this photo and had her last child (William "Billy/Bill") who is just a few months older than the Grandson she is holding.
